Which characters does escaping always replace?
The Escaped set is &, <, >, double quote, and apostrophe. The ampersand is replaced first, so the references written by this Tool are not read again as markup.
Why does an apostrophe become ' instead of '?
The numeric reference ' is recognized by older HTML versions as well as modern ones. ' was added later, so the numeric form is the safer output for general HTML.
What does Non-ASCII escaping change?
When enabled, every code point above U+007F becomes a hexadecimal Numeric reference. An emoji such as 😀 is one code point and becomes one reference, not two surrogate halves.
